THE NAKED ELVES 10 DEMANDMENTS for the Raiding Rank

What is expected from you, the Raider? While we would love to pretend that a positive attitude and a chipper shit-eating grin is all it takes to kill bosses, the level of content we are in requires much much more. For us to reach our goals the fellow raider must be:

1) SKILLED. The Naked Elves core raiders must be skilled in gaming. This is the ability to act and react and the proper moments. To have a sense of their surroundings, to be aware. To know how to interact with friendly characters in the raid and enemy characters and bosses. Quick and precise reactions are key in high level boss fights. If you have a difficult time maneuvering your toon and find yourself constantly making mistakes then there is a good chance you are not skilled enough yet. Spending more time in BG’s and Arena might help. In addition ZA is a great place to prepare yourself for T5 and up raiding.

2) EDUMACATED. In order to be the best you can be you need to learn about your class. While it is also to learn about other classes especially how those classes affect your class… it is imperative that you know everything there is to know about your class. There are many online forums that talk about gear choices and stat selection, also about shot/spell/ cast rotations or sequences. There are macro’s to be able to use. Knowing what buffs to use and when. Knowing what professions might benefit your class the most. Knowing the in’s and out’s of a boss fight before you have ever seen that boss in-game. Take 10% of your game time out to be educated about your specific class mechanics.

3) GEARED. This is the easiest part… it really is. However because players do not take the time out to educate themselves they are not aware of the bountiful items available to them to be T5 ready in gear. There are craftable items, badge items, drops in T4 and heroics and even a few quest reward items that can make you viable for T5 raids. Too often players are distracted with alts, quests, farming, dailies, saving for an epic mount. These diversions make you a less viable raider because it takes time away from farming heroics for drops and badges. Badge gear is some of the finest items in-game at this time. In addition many of the Heroic boss fights will prepare you for T5 raids. *** At the bare minimum you must be full T4/ Badge epics with all items enchanted and gemmed. Gems must be a minimum of rare quality however epic gems will needed as we progress.

4) THICK-SKIN’D. Mistakes happen. You have to be able to take criticism when it does. If we are all a bunch of tree hugging (sorry resto druids) hippies singing “love one another” we are not going to learn from our mistakes and gain from the experience. If you can’t take a little bit of aggro from your raid team then you may be better off choosing to be a Casual.

5) ADVANCED. Raid add-ons such as Omen, Vent, DBM and much more help your game play. In addition the quality and speed of your computer reduces downtime and disconnects that can cause raid wipes. If you have unstable connection or your computer cannot handle the instances we are on, it’s time to go shopping. In addition there are many add-on’s to improve your UI (User Interface). This can give you more view-space for your surroundings, easier to see your raid frames, boss special ability casts, and easier access to your action bars and buttons. There are add-ons specific to each spec which for some are necessities such as Heal-Bot and Pally-Power. If you are playing on a laptop with a small screen it will also make it harder on you and the raid. A larger screen preferably around 24” is good.

6) SELF-SUFFICIENT. You don’t need to be flying around on a Nether Rocket but you do need to be financially sound enough to have all of your raid consumables at all times. Every boss fight should include buff foods, flasks, elixirs, pots, and scrolls. If you are not taking advantage of ALL of these during each and every boss fight please file for Unemployment and wait in the Casual rank till you can afford to be a raider. In addition this ties into gear, you have to be able to afford all of the crafted items that are upgrades from what you have as well as gems and enchants.

7) AVAILABLE. Many of these boss fights and raids require both the individual AND the group to be experienced with the content. “A raid that plays together, stays together”. If you cannot make the majority of the raid times we will not be able to advance simply because carrying the weight of a new player or PUG will burden the raid group to greatly.

8) RELIABLE. Do you have more surprises than a Tucked-in Tranny? That’s great that you made it on-time to the raid, but do you often DC and not return? Do things come up all the time that force you to leave early such as the dog catching on fire? Do you leave the raid group so you can turn in your dailies? There are 25 people to have to organize in the raid, please have respect for the raid organizers and the rest of the raid party and do your dailies at another time and keep you dog away from the fireplace. More time is often wasted from replacing individuals or waiting for someone than actually spent learning fights and progressing.

9) EXPERIENCED. If you have been with more bosses than Monica Lewinsky then T5 fights will make more sense.. many of the abilities of T5 bosses are similar to other encounters. Unless you bought your toon off of eBay, you have hopefully done every heroic several times, Kara dozens of times, ZA, Gruul’s & Mag’s, & maybe even some old world bosses. If there are any bosses and instances you have not fought Pre-T5, please go out and do them now. Understanding of each encounter will make you stronger from the forthcoming ones.

10) POSITIVE. Roll with it baby. We will wipe more times than an ass after a chili dog eating contest. It’s ok, that’s how we get better. Stay positive and focused. Learn from the mistakes instead of dwelling on it. One persons negative attitude to the raid can bring down the entire raids morale more than Resurrection Sickness can. We are a team, remember. And the more positive and excited we are as a team, the stronger we will be, and the better we will play.
